Review: Alpha H Liquid Gold

I thought I'd get the ball rolling by reviewing one of the staples in my skin care routine. I have seen a lot of love for this product amongst the online beauty community so it is only right I add my part - and my verdict is that it is honestly the most life changing beauty product I have come across to date.

To start off with I should probably give the low down on my skin type. At the age of 21, I have pretty normal/dry skin and I luckily suffered my 'teenage' breakouts/acne when I was only about 11, leaving little damage behind on my skin. Problematic skin does run in the family genes though, with both my parents suffering from acne in their late 20s leaving behind acne scarring, I have always been cautious about my skin and have always taken some kind of care of it. I think I pretty much wiped out a lot of the oil in my skin after going through a phase of vigorously exfoliating it throughout my early teens (oh st. Ives, how I loved you) and 'dullness' is something I struggle with. Pores were also another problem, particularly around my nose area, until I discovered Alpha H products.

What is it?
Alpha H Liquid Gold is a liquid toner that works by chemically exfoliating the surface of your skin leaving the skin clearer and brighter. It is a glycolic-based treatment designed to be used 2 or 3 times a week instead of moisturiser. It works over night and in turn increases the skin's radiance levels helping it look clearer and brighter

I did not replace this product with anything, but started to use it alongside my sk:n cleanser (review to come, also heavily glycolic based). These two products did however, replace abrasive exfoliators in my routine and I have not looked back since. Switching to these made me learn (the hard way) that mechanical exfoliation can cause further minor break outs, and can cause irritation to the surface of the skin. Though it seems like a good option in the short run, it can in fact irritate and damage the surface of the skin. Chemical exfoliation gently resurfaces and rejuvenates without irritating the skins surface - it's a winner all round!

One of the main things I've found since using it is that it has noticeably tightened my skin. Pores are minimal and the surface seems incredibly plum and well, just smooth. I was tempted at one point to use this everyday but this is not a good idea with these kinds of products. Over use can dry your skin out. The tingling sensation when applying it is slightly strange at first, but is not irritating or painful in any way.

Let me know your thoughts.

  2. I had a couple of sample tubes of this and found it dried my skin out - which is quite something, given how oily my skin is!! I prefer to use products without alcohol, generally speaking :) I'm glad it's working well for you, though!

    1. Unfortunately that is one of the downsides of these chemical exfoliants. Glad you had samples and didn't have to purchase the full size bottle! xo

  3. Great review! Couldn't agree more about the fact that it's life changing. I'm onto my second bottle since first getting my hands on it :-)
